Electric E-Type battery box

The Jaguar E-Type was famously described by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car in the world”. Introduced in 1961, the E-Type quickly became an icon. It was based on a D-Type racing car and it was not only gorgeous but fast – Jaguar claimed a top speed of 150 mph and 0-60 in under 7 seconds. As well as a series of high-torque engines, it had disc brakes and independent suspension front and rear.

“I’m simply delighted with my electric E-Type. It’s light, responsive and smooth, and I love the feeling of changing down and accelerating through the corners. Classic E-Type driving with always-perfect tuning.”

Jaguar made three models of E-Type, with transition models in-between. We have designed a bespoke electrification system to power all models of the E-Type Jaguar with clean electricity. The subject of our first conversion is known as a series 1 1⁄4 and it was built with a 4.2 litre straight 6 engine.

What this customer wanted

This customer retained the gearbox to keep the classic E-Type driving experience (minus the never-ending carburettor issues).

The battery pack was kept to 41kWh creating an electric E-Type that is 100kg lighter than the original and loves turning into tight bends on the track and on winding country roads.

Electric E-Type conversion options

Manual gearbox

TorqX-310 350V electric motor bolted directly onto the original gearbox and driving the rear wheels using a clutch and all the gears – just as the E-Type was always meant to be driven.  Battery packs are 41 or 62kWh.  In an E-Type you can expect about 3 miles/kWh – though it does depend on how you drive it!

The dashboard of the electric E-Type is unchanged. The dials and gauges are repurposed.

High Voltage with fixed reduction drive

TorqX-310x 350V motor with an additional 30kW of power and a 2.35:1 or 2.7:1 fixed in-line reduction gear final drive; the higher reduction gives even more blistering acceleration with a slightly lower top speed.  CCS rapid charging.  41 or 62kWh battery options.  No gear changes required to hit 60mph in less than no time…
